Ed Jones / Emil Karlsen
Ed Jones and I have been playing together as a duo since 2020. Our first album ‘From Where Light Falls’, released on FMR in 2021, was a culmination of regular rehearsals during the first Covid lockdown. It was a period of little certainty, but our Monday night rehearsal quickly became a regular feature of the week.
Every meeting was recorded, allowing us to listen back, reflect, and let those insights shape the direction of our next session. This cycle of playing, listening, and responding became an integral part of how the music developed.
We felt the music was always in motion - shifting and evolving with each session. The final piece, ‘December Pt. 4’, didn’t feel like a conclusive statement, but rather an invitation for further exploration. When the chance to record a second album in Leeds’ Augustine church arose, we accepted without hesitation. Playing with Ed always feels like we pick up exactly where we left off and this album is no exception.
